ITANAGAR Aug 24: Kiren Rijiju, the firebrand politician who managed to put Arunachal in the big picture today joined Congress from BJP.
With this new political development, Bharatiya Janata Party at the National and State level have received a major jolt.
It is historic moment for me as I have taken a major political decision that I believe will benefit the people of Arunachal Pradesh said former Lok Sabha MP today while addressing media persons.
As Arunachalee I have a duty to serve the people of the state at maximum capacity and after thorough retrospection I feel that Congress is the right platform said Rijiju.
Arunachal is a sensitive state which needs stability and this can be reached only when likeminded leaders come under a common umbrella to serve the cause of the state, he said.
One must also remember that the political scenario of the country has changed with people giving clear mandate to the INC in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
I don’t see much role as a member of BJP to serve the people and the state at this juncture, Rijiju said and added that through Congress he would be able to serve the people best.
He also clarified that his joining the INC was unconditional and further crashed all speculation by stating that he will not contest in the assembly polls due in October next.
Once the election is over, we must work for the state as well as the nation’s interest, Rijiju said.
When asked on the court case pending against Election Commission on booths capturing and rigging during the last parliamentary election in his constituency (Arunachal West), Rijiju said since the ‘political differences’ have been buried, he would soon withdraw it.
The former MP further commented that the PM package and the implementation of 6th CPC in the state with government employees getting 15 months arrear is historic.
No other state in the northeast have received such attention from the Centre as Arunachal Pradesh has under the able leadership of chief minister Dorjee Khandu and APCC president Nabam Tuki, he added.
It is a 'home coming' for the young leader and his joining has strengthened the Congress in the state as well as the country said Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Nabam Tuki at the press conference here today.
Nabam Tuki further informed that AICC chief and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had accepted Rijiju in the party’s fold.
There is no irony or surprise in politics said MP Takam Sanjoy while welcoming his one time opposition.
With Rijiju’s joining the Congress, 99% of BJP swing in the state ends, Sanjoy said and added that there is no room for any communal organization or party in Arunachal Pradesh.

Welcoming Rijiju to the party’s fold, chief minister Dorjee Khandu said that it was time for energetic leaders to join hands together and work for development of the state.
Khandu is confident that Congress would win in all the 60 assembly seats to form the next state government.

Bridge project foundation laid
ITANAGAR, Aug 24: PWD & UD Minister Nabam Tuki today laid the foundation stone of an ambitious bridge project, construction of RCC bridge over river Pachin in between Jullang and Chimpu, in presence of local MLA Kipa Babu at Richi village near Delhi Public School, about 6 kms from the state capital.

Women helps arrest drug peddlers in Changlang
Changlang, Aug 24: The Changlang district administration rewarded two women from
Balinong village of Kharsang circle under Changlang district, with cash amount of
Rs 2000/-
The women namely Litdam Ronrang and Sulan Mossang were the two social activists who came forward boldly to assist the local police leading to the arrest of two drug peddlers along with 350 grams of opium. The women caught the peddlers red handed near ITI Tinali, Balinong while traveling by bicycles. A regular case against the culprits has been registered under NDPS Act at Kharsang Police Station.
The women social activists while showing their concern about the future of their children, male counterpart and village as well informed the Deputy Commissioner that as long as the peddlers are given free way in the village it will be under the grip of Drugs addiction. The road leading to the village is kept under constant vigilance and the suspected persons are checked which has led to reduction in drug consumption in comparison to previous years. However it is still not known from where the addicted persons got the drugs from, they informed.

NHPC constructing India's longest tunnel in Subansiri
Gerukamukh, Assam-
''The tunnel work has almost been completed and only the supper structure is being added,'' NHPC General Manager Om Prakash told a group of visiting journalists.
There will be eight gigantic tunnels, each with the size of a three storied building. It will take the water from the dam site to the power house which will have eight turbines, each having a generating capacity of 275 MW, he said.
''This is the biggest project of the country and anything about it is really big,'' said R K Chaudhury, the project's Chief Engineer.
The tunnels are so big that at least two fully loaded buses or trucks can cross at full speed without any hindrance. More than 400 labourers are working round the clock inside the tunnel to complete it in time as the tunnel is being supplied by oxygen.
The project is being constructed with Rs 7500 crore and 30 per cent work had been
completed. The actual construction of the dam will begin this year as the American
engineering company, involved in the world’s biggest hydel project-

''There has been a lot of confusion and apprehension about the ecological toll the hydel project will leave after completion in the greater Lakhimpur district. There are also some misgivings about the expert committee's interim report about the downstream impact but in fact that is also being addressed,'' said Chief Environmentalist Vipin Kumar.

He was presiding over the recently held meeting of District Level Relief Committee with an objective to streamline the relief assistances being given to the victims of crop damage, fire accidents, FDR Schemes and damages caused to livestock & properties due to natural calamities.
DC further said that the concerned circle level Relief Committee will ensure that government guidelines are strictly observed while scrutinizing and forwarding the cases to the District level, which must be vetted by the DAO & DHO respectively.
DRRO/FO (DM), Tana Tage, Anini has requested the member to offer their valuable views and suggestions to improve the functioning of the committee in more effective way.
In order to make the functioning of the Committee effective and transparent in giving
relief assistances to different natural calamities, the Chairman cum Deputy Commissioner,
DLRC, Anini has enhanced the immediate relief grant to fire victims from the existing
Rs 2000/-
While taking serious views on practices of receiving of payment at one go in receipt
of representative signatures, the Committee decided to pay relief amount payable
through Cheque to individual victims, where loss reported to be above 50 % percent
in pursuance to GoI, Ministry of Agriculture & Cooperation, New Delhi’s DO No. 30-
The Committee also decided that in case of fire accidents, the concerned administrative officers at Circle level should ensure that immediate relief is provided expeditiously within (7) days of occurrence of disaster from any source as admissible under government guidelines.
The Committee also approved that as per existing norms, all the FDR schemes sanctioned by the government will be jointly monitored by the Deputy Commissioner and District Relief & Rehabilitation Officer, RR&DM in the district from time to time.

Grievances of different nature were placed before local MLA and also Assembly Speaker who promptly responded positively.
His positive response was reflected in the form of providing 100 number of best quality plastic chairs of different colour after 14 days of my verbal demand, brought to the school by truck.
Other contributions towards uplift of the institution include 29 number of Wooden Cots made up of Hallock timber for Boys & Girls Hostel, immediate dismantling and renovation of old building wall, Boys/Girls Hostel besides entire academic building. He also provided school infrastructure and carried out may infrastructural development works including earth cutting for ground expansion.
Further he assured to extend two more metres down land cutting of general/school ground in next AOP, besides erection of permanent Fancing wall around School campus which are awaited by us.
Hence, demanding for immediate supply of infrastructure is the sole responsibility of school authority either through persuasion or through adopting resolution in VEC/School Management Committee meeting comprising of local Administration as Chairman, some influential and well to do public leaders etc. At the same time, if demand is fulfilled positively by local elected representatives and leaders of the ruling party, another responsibility goes to school authority to maintain school infrastructure.
